They Say The Darndest Things

Act 74:

“It’s never too late… To Listen To Your Kids

They know stuff. They don’t know a lot too. But the things they know are different. And fascinating. You can learn much from your kids. About them. About you. About life. Remember how frustrating it was when you were a kid, and people wouldn’t listen to you?” – Patrick Lindsay

Quote in book: “It’s all that the young can do for the old, to shock them and keep them up to date.” ~ George Bernard Shaw

Does anyone else remember that show? Kids Say The Darndest Things it was hosted by Bill Cosby from 1998 -2000. Apparently it was also a special in 1995. I think I remember seeing that too.

I have a couple of friends that have kids and they always have the cutest stories about them. I wish I could remember some of the things that they’ve said. I know that HGraz has told me some really awesome stories about her son Marco. I wish my brain wasn’t so fried right now and I could remember one of them. =( Btw – I did forget HGraz yesterday. HGraz is an amazing mom and is so selfless when it comes to her kids. When I have kids, if I’m half the mom she is (and my own mom) I think my kids would be very lucky.

I do have one story that I read on FB that one of my friends posted yesterday. It’s hilarious.
“OMG...one of our four-year-olds shoved something into his ear and it looks like an eraser.
His reasoning: My daddy will take me to the doctor and the doctor will give me stickers.
Me: So you put it into your ear so you could get stickers? I have stickers! I could have given you stickers. ugh!”

I do have one story about myself that my family tells about me ALL the time. I must not have been older than three. Someone would ask me.. (in tagalog).

Who’s pretty? (Sino ang maganda?) Are you pretty? (Maganda ka ba?)
I would respond. “No, I’m bango. which means… No. I smell good. Haha

Kids do say the most interesting things because they have such an innocent and simple perspective. Sometimes I wish life was that simple and I looked at the world with those new and learning eyes. They can teach you something about the world that you’ve either forgotten or never saw before. Ok moms and dads out there… hook me up w/ a story about your kids saying something awesome!

It's hard to wake up
Looking out a dirty old window.
Down below the cars in the city go rushing by.
I sit here alone and I wonder why.

Friday night and everyone's moving.
I can feel the heat but it's soothing.
Heading down, I search for the beat in this dirty town.

Down town the young ones are going.
Down town the young ones are growing.

10 Points: Name the Artist of “Stay Together For The Kids” lyrics are below

It's hard to wake up
When the shades have been pulled shut
This house is haunted
It's so pathetic
It makes no sense at all.
I'm ripe with things to say
The words rot and fall away.
If a stupid poem could fix this home
I'd read it every day.

So here's your holiday
Hope you enjoy it this time
You gave it all away
It was mine
So when you're dead and gone
Will you remember this night, twenty years now lost.
It's not right

CORNY (& COUNCIL MEMBERS)
Ev'ry afternoon
When the clock strikes four
(bop-bee-ba, ba-ba-ba-ba, bee-ba)

A crazy bunch of kids
Crash through that door
(bop-bee-ba, ba-ba-ba-ba, bee-ba)

They throw off their coats
And leave the squares behind
And then they shake it, shake it, shake it
Like they're losing their mind
You'll never see them frown
'Cause they're the nicest kids in town

So, I don't have little kids and the things my teenagers say are downright annoying, not cute. But, I do have really cute patients that say the best things sometimes. The one that stands out in my mind was a 2 year old boy who was super smart. We were playing with fake food and he was pretending to bake cookies. He started saying, "I'm making these yummy cookies for my girlfriend. She is so pretty and nice and will love these cookies. She'll want lots of sprinkles." I asked him who his girlfriend was, and he said "you." So cute...
