Oh Genie Of The Lamp Grant Me…

Before I start today’s topic… I want to acknowledge that 7 months ago today my father passed away. Here is the txt msg exchange between my bro and me

13:24 PDT Me: 7 months… =(

13:26 PDT Him: Totally didn’t notice.. Thats progress I guess

13:29 PDT Me: Ya well I didn’t notice till just now. Ya its progress I guess. Don’t know ho I feel about that. But I guess being happy & not noticing until now is ok. Love you

13:26 PDT Agreed!.. Love you too..

Act 94:

“It’s never too late… To Make A Wish

Take a walk on the bright side. Wishes cost nothing. They’re your little secret. A journey into your heart, which often clarifies your true feelings, turns them into visualizations, then often sees them become reality.” – Patrick Lindsay

Quote in book: “The wish is the father to the thought.” ~ William Shakespeare

The first thing that pops into my head when I see “Make A Wish” is The Make-A-Wish Foundation. For those that don’t know it’s a foundation that grants wishes to children (2.5 years to 18 years old) who have life-threatening medical conditions. I’m thinking that maybe I should do something with the local LA chapter. I’ll have to look into that.

This also makes me think of the age old question – If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?

Before you answer…I (as the genie of this lamp) am putting a few restrictions on your wishes… (the three from Aladdin’s Lamp and a few extras)

  1. Can't wish for more wishes
  2. Can't wish to make someone undead or make someone dead in the present
  3. Can’t make someone fall in love with you
  4. Can’t wish for change in monetary status or monetary windfall
  5. Can't wish for something generic things like “world peace”, “happiness”, “equality” (cause I think we all wish for that)
  6. Can’t wish for a change in historical events or the power to change them

I know I know.. I have a lot of rules.. but seriously??? Have you met me? Haha

Here are my three…

1) Add to my family by having one of my own

2) The ability to make decisions quicker

3) The ability to read minds

Thoughts? Comments? So I struggled with this a lot. Obviously on a day like today I would wish to have more time with my dad. I would also want to wish for job security (but I think that’s too close to violating #5, so I didn’t put it). I’d want to wish for the ability to always win! (but I know there are drawbacks to that.. did I really win? Or was it just because I wished it to be so! Haha) Or how about the ability to always be right or always do the right thing (or as Bex put it and infallible moral compass)? – my issue with this is… my who’s moral compass would that be? Mine? If that’s true, wouldn’t I already have this ability? It’s just a question of always following it.

I know the minute I post this… I’m gonna second guess myself and wish I put something else in (hence wish #2). Wishing gives you hope. Allows you to dream about that perfect world. Something to strive for. Something to give you peace. Some wishes are unattainable, but some aren’t. For the ones that are accomplishable, go out there and make them happen.

What are your three wishes?

Shout out to my cousin Ryan - Happy Birthday Cuz! Love you!

1. I wish my husband would stop smoking.

2. I wish that my two cats get adopted into a loving home (gave them up last week).

3. I wish my son a life of love, health, and success.

1. I wish to get pregnant with a healthy baby (girl if I get a choice, but I'd be happy with a boy).

2. I wish that all the stray pets would have a happy home (probably too generic for the rules).

3. I wish I didn't have to work so hard to feel fulfilled and keep from being bored.

BTW, an easy way to contribute to Make-A-Wish if money is an issue, they take frequent flyer miles to use to send the kids on their trips. Don't know about you, but I never have enough miles to do anything before they expire.
