Tell A Story

Act 89:

“It’s never too late… To Write

Your stories are like no other. Your experience. Your view. Your hopes, losses, triumphs. Are unique. Record them. Invent them. Write them.” – Patrick Lindsay

Quote in book: “You can only write about what bites you.” ~ Tom Stoppard

This one’s easy. I write every day. I write a blog entry every day. It is my life. My view point. My story on each and every act. I’ve been told many times by the readers of this blog that it is “sooo you”. Meaning… they can hear my voice recanting the story or saying the words as you read them. I guess that’s what I intend. That you hear my voice reading the blog to you like a voice over in a movie.

In truth, I don’t consider myself a writer. Well, not a writer in the normal sense of the word. Yes, I create these blogs, but they are just putting my thoughts and opinions into a journal type format that other people can read. I’m not really good at creating fiction or fan verse. I’m not a journalist. I’m not not looking to be published. I’m not looking to get recognition. I’m just happy that any of you read these at all.

If I were forced to write something, I’d write dialogue for a movie, a TV show, a soap or a musical/play. At one time, a friend and I were writing a pilot. He’s great at coming up with the idea or the main plot of the story. I was good at the details. The specific dialogue for each scene/act and making sure the story flowed and had good continuity. So, give me an idea like… a pirate who is lost at sea for 3 weeks and the crew is about to mutiny (someone gave this idea to me)… and I’ll be able to come up with the name of the pirate, the name of the ship, the sea they are in and the dialogue the pirate says as he’s being tied up to walk the plank, I’ll even be able to about the illegitimate son who snuck into be part of the crew that saves his father from walking off into the shark infested waters. I just need the original idea and I can go from there. However, come up w/ that original idea is very very hard for me.

This is why I’m not a creative writer. I was never really good at that in school. I am “ok” at it I suppose. Good enough to get As in school and a 4 in AP English. If I could write something, I wouldn’t want to write a novel, short story, or poetry…I’d want to write a musical. Hmm I guess that’s not that big of a surprise, right? I love musicals and I always have an internal soundrack. Music is my life. It rules my life. It only makes sense that I would want to do something to contribute to that genre. The only problem with that is that I’m not a writer and can’t compose music either. I can remember melodies, but I’m not good at creating them. I tried my hand at writing a song one time and it was an epic fail. I’ve been too scared to try again. Maybe this whole blog writing thing and getting myself out there will give me enough courage to try again.

How about all of you? Are you “good” at writing? Are you writers? Have you written anything that you’ve wanted to get published? I’d love to know cause I like talking to writers and artistic people. I love watching the way their minds think. I’m so logical and analytical that I’m fascinated by the whole “writing” process. =)
