Put Down The Remote

Act 141:

It’s never too late… To Turn Off The TV

Let it know who’s in charge. It’s there for fun. To keep in touch. For information. But every so often, just turn it off. Ignore it. Find an alternative. Go for a walk. Listen to music. Read. Talk.” – Patrick Lindsay

Quote in book: “Television – a medium. So called because it is neither rare nor well done.” ~ Ernie Kovacs

I’m a TV addict. The minute I get home from work I have the TV on. I usually write these blogs while the TV is on in the background. I’m such a TV addict that I’ve just stopped reading, which used to be my favorite past time. The great thing about this Act being on this day is that I’m coming back from being on travel and that it’s the first day of the World Series. So, there’s not really much going on to compete against that. Right now, I’m not actually watching very much on Wednesday nights. I know there’s Modern Family, but I never started watching that show, so I’m not watching it. I think the only show I’m watching is Revenge. I decided not to watch The X Factor. I already watch too much TV, so I didn’t really want to add list of shows.

Just to get an idea of what I’m watching…. Here’s the list of what I watch everyday… so if anyone needs a little break from the tube… I DO!

Monday – How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, Two And A Half Men, Mike And Molly, Hawaii Five-O

Tuesday – Glee (duh!!), The New Girl, Raising Hope, Ringer, Unforgettable, Body Of Proof, Top Shot

Wednesday – Revenge

Thursday – The Big Bang Theory, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Prime Suspect, Gigolos

Friday - Blue Bloods

Saturday – N/A

Sunday – Packer Football (actually I watch football all day long), Dexter

- What I didn’t put on this list is that I watch 4 Soaps – Days Of Our Lives, General Hospital, One Live To Live, and Young and the Restless

See, I watch a lot of TV, but I do turn it off one night a week. Sat nights. I usually use this night to catch up on all the TV I missed during the week. So, in honor of this Act. I’ve decided to put down the Tivo Remote for at least 2 hours each night for a week.

So what are the things that I’m gonna be doing during that time? Hmm… go out to dinner w/ friends. Go watch a show. Clean my place. Read. Write my blogs. Exercise. Now I can’t do all of those things, within those two hours, but I’m going to do all of those things at least once during the next week. Wish me luck. Who’s willing to give up 2 hours of TV w/ me for the next week?

Why are you not watching Modern Family?! Even more importantly, you need to watch Breaking Bad. Awesome show!

I'm trying to break free from the tv, too, so that I can study. We are also not watching Modern Family for the same reason as you, and I decided against the X Factor. I see you're watching Ringer, what do you think of it? I think the premise is good, but the acting and actual script is not. I also think they revealed that Sioban isn't dead way too early.
