Rubber Band Hand!

Act 140:

It’s never too late… To Change Your Mind

Take a view. Make a point. Make a decision. But always keep your mind open. Stay flexible. Consider the possibility that you’re wrong. That there’s a better way.” – Patrick Lindsay

Quote in book: “Like all weak mean he laid exaggerated stress on not chang-ing one’s mind.” ~ W. Somerset Maugham

I’m really indecisive, but I’m a lot better than when I was a kid. Every day it takes me forever to get dressed. I probably put on at least three things, or change my mind at least twice when figuring out what to wear. Anytime I go on travel or vacation I bring a ton of extra clothes, because I need options everyday. Haha.

I’m not quite sure why I’m like this, cause it’s not like I’m really that into fashion or really care about what people say about what I’m wearing. I don’t have any unique or special style. I think it goes back to when I started gaining weight. I started getting those fat rolls or a muffin top, because I was so over-weight. I would change to make sure I didn’t look fat. Then I lost some weight and the clothes are too big and I look frumpy. I think it started that way and then I just got in the habit. But I’ve always been bad with making decisions about little things and change my mind a lot.

I also change my mind a lot when I’m trying to decide what to eat. If you’ve ever been w/ me to a new a restaurant, I’ll pick like 5 or 6 things that look good. Then I’ll change my mind about what I’m going to order at least three different times. It actually gets worse if the waiter/waitress takes a long time to get back to us or take our order. It usually drives my companions nuts. I usually just have to stop looking at the menu or else I’ll find something else that looks good and then want that. So, if you’re ever out w/ me… feel free to call me on it and usually that snaps me out of it. Then I put the menu down and decide… then 8/10 times I’ll change my mind yet again once I’m actually ordering. Haha.

My indecisiveness has been prominent throughout my whole life, even when I was a kid. I was so bad that when my family played card games, I would put a card down, but then pick it back up and then put another one down. I would or could do this multiple times. I started doing this with every turn and practically ALL the time. So much so, that my dad created this phrase with a tune. He proceeded to sing it EVERYTIME I did it. Then he started doing it just when I picked any card out of my hand and started to put it down. He used to sing “Rubber Band Hand!”

Then it became this rule in our family called the “Rubber Band Hand Rule”. We would start out the games stating the rule was in play. Then no one was allowed to “rubber band hand” anything (not just me). I ended up getting a lot better, but there were times that I would still do it, because I changed my mind at the last second. The only problem w/ this rule is that now it started to take forever for me to take my turn, so then I get the “any day now” look from everyone. Haha. I guess I prefer that to the song. =) Towards the end, I wasn’t the only one who was doing this move and now anyone who changes their mind during ANY game gets the song! So, remember… if you ever play a game w/ my family, beware of changing your mind… or ur gonna get teased!
