Waiting To Exhale

Act 126:

“It’s never too late… To Learn To Breathe

It’s the most basic of human functions. Yet few of us do it properly. Relax. Feel your breathing. Just being aware of it will calm you. Draw in the air slowly. Let it charge you with its energy. Spend some time savouring the feeling. Do some homework. Learn from the experts.” – Patrick Lindsay

Quote in book: “If anything is sacred, the human body is sacred.” ~ Walt Whitman

You would think that breathing isn’t something that you would have to learn or re-learn, but you’d be surprised how just focusing on breathing is such a great way to relax, exercise, or change your mood. Breathing is so important and we all take it for granted, because it’s natural and an involuntary function. However, there are certain ways of screwing it up, which is surprising.

Let’s take the easiest example… Breathing while exercising. Most people do it wrong. You are suppose to breath in with the easy part of the exercise and breath out with the hard part of the exercise and the exertion part of the exercise. This is why PE teachers always told you to Breathe In… Breathe Out. Yoga focuses on breathing and breathing techniques. My 6 Week Body Make Over exercise program focuses on breathing. Apparently, if you do it right, just the simple act of breathing a certain way helps you lose weight. I was skeptical at first, but it does work. =)

My problem with breathing is that sometimes I forget to breathe. When I’m in a meeting or focusing intently on something, I forget to breathe. Then I have to do this big gasp of air and I end up yawning. Then it seems like I’m not paying attention and/or falling asleep. It kinda sucks that I have to concentrate on breathing when I’m concentrating. Haha

Lastly, breathing really helps me control my anger. When I’m really pissed or when I want to hit someone or throw something across the room, the simple act of closing my eyes and taking a deep breath calms me down. It helps me pause and think about the consequences of my actions. I usually don’t actually act on my anger, but sometimes even taking one breath is not enough. So, the other thing I do is count to ten and take another breath. This usually calms me down about 90% of the time.

Breathing correctly in all of these situations always help me. I’m sure I can think of more situations and examples that learning how to breathe properly. Are there any that you can think of that I missed?

10 Points: Name the Artist and Song of the lyrics below

i've been driving for an hour
just talking to the rain
you say i've been driving you crazy
and it's keeping you away
so just give me one good reason
tell me why i should stay
'cause i don't wanna waste another moment
in saying things we never meant to say
and i take it just a little bit
i hold my breath and count to ten
i've been waiting for a chance to let you in

chorus:
if i just breathe
let it fill the space between
i'll know everything is alright
breathe
every little piece of me
you'll see
everything is alright
if i just breathe

10 Points: Name the Artist and Song of the lyrics below

Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take

I'll be watching you

Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay

I'll be watching you

O can't you see
You belong to me
My poor heart aches
With every step you take

Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake

I'll be watching you

10 Points: Name the Artist and Song of the lyrics below

I can feel the magic floating in the air
Beign with you gets me that way
I watch the sunlight dance across your face
And i've never been this swept away
All my thoughts just seem to settle on the breeze
When i'm lying wrapped up in your arms
The whole world just fades away
The only thing I hear
Is the beating of your heart

CHORUS:
Cause I can feel you breathe
It's washing over me
And suddenly i'm melting into you
There's nothing left to prove
Baby, all we need is just to be
Caught up in the touch
Slow and steady rush
Baby, isn't that the way that love's suppose to be
I can feel you breathe
