Accomplish Incredible Things

Act 167:

It’s never too late… To Do Something Great

Never underestimate your potential. Or discount your ability. Most great achievements are based on perseverance. Believe in yourself. Persist. When others give in, keep going. When you falter, have faith and surge ahead. .” – Patrick Lindsay

Quote in book: “Be not afraid of greatness.” ~ William Shakespeare

Everybody has the ability to do something great or to make a difference. It could be big or small. Good for just you or good for others. I feel like we were put on this earth for a reason. I also feel that we are all special. We all have certain things we are better at than other people. Meaning that we all have the ability to do something special or great that very few other people have the ability to do. The trick is finding the something that you are good at instead of just pretending.

In the past couple months, I’ve been doing a lot of retrospection of my life and my abilities. In terms of doing something great, as I’ve said before, this blog series is something pretty incredible. And more and more, I’m coming to appreciate what an amazing feat this blog series was. 172 blogs on 172 different topics in 172 days. Craziness. Now I know I didn’t do it all in one straight shot, but I did have a 16 day break because I went on vacation, where I wrote up a trivia email practically every day. So fine, 183 blogs/emails on 183 different topics in 188 days. That’s right. I only missed 5 days and all those days were during vacation.

I’m very proud of this feat considering that I don’t consider myself to be a writer. How many writers have done this? Write about something every day for 6 months. I know some really good writers and they haven’t ever done something like this or even attempted this. I can only say I got through thie by shear determination and will power. Once I commit to doing something, I do it. I don’t like flakers and a I don’t respect people who don’t keep their word (or at least who don’t try to).

My cousin asked me the other day if I was going to put all of the entries into a book. I have written all of these blog entries in Microsoft Word before posting them. I broke up the 172 Acts into four files. Each file contains 43 blogs, which are about 100 pages each. Put them all together and I’ve got approximately 400 page book. If you told me a year ago or even when I started this that I would ever write a 400 page book, I would’ve told you… you were nuts. Apparently I was the nutso…

I’m not quite sure if I’m going to package all of these into a book. I feel like I’ll need to edit some of the blog entries a little bit, because I know there are mistakes. I got really tired during some of them and I didn’t proof read them before posting. However, I do think it would be cool to create a book and have it sitting on the shelf, where I could point to it and say… “I did that! Cool, right?”

Any opinions out there? Should I make this blog series into a book? I don’t think it should be too hard. Do you think anyone would be interested in having a copy? I don’t think I could sell it w/out permission from Mr. Lindsay, since I used his entire book as the basis of my blogs. Hmm…. I’ll have to think more about this. I’d love your input.

I wouldn’t have thought that this was the “great” thing that I would do. This is just an example of something great that I’ve done (will do, since I’m 4 away from being finished). I think my really contribution to society is the stuff I do at work. I can’t really talk about most of it here, but for those of you who know what I do for a living and what I work on… on a daily basis, then you know. That is what I think is my real impact I’m leaving on this earth.

But I think that we can do pretty much anything we set our minds to. Especially if we are in control of every aspect of it. Just like this blog series. It took commitment and dedication to make sure I wrote an entry every day. That was a choice that I was in control of and made every day to write something. It’s not like “being a star” or “win the super bowl”. Those are things that require help from other people. So, I’m challenging all of you out there to accomplish something that you are in complete control of. Like losing weight or learning how to play and instrument or passing a bunch of video games. These are all small little things, but I think you get the picture. As for my next little “something great” thing, I’m probably gonna finish my Musical website or learn how to play the piano or lose those last 15 lbs. Or maybe do them all… =)
